The wrong ring size is the most common jewelry return. Clasp answers "what size am I?" on every ring, on paper rather than on screen:

  • Beside the ring size option ("Ring size: 6½"), a Find your ring size link with a small ring icon. It opens the ring size guide.
  • The size chart: "Size chart" with a US | UK/AU switch (it opens in your system, and the shopper's choice is remembered in their browser). The table gives US, UK/AU, EU and JP sizes with the inside diameter and circumference in millimetres; on small phones the JP and circumference columns step aside. It lists the sizes you make first, with Show every size, US 3 to 13 (Show every size, F to Z+1 while it shows UK/AU) for the rest. The row of the size chosen in the picker is highlighted. Every row the product sells and has in stock ends with Choose, which selects that size, closes the guide and tells screen readers "Size 6½ selected"; a size that's sold out says "Sold out" instead.
  • Measure a ring you already own: a small drawing of a ring on a ruler and three steps ("Choose a ring that fits the finger you're buying for." / "Lay it on a ruler and measure across the inside, edge to edge, in millimetres." / "Find the closest diameter in the chart. Between two? Choose the larger."), then "No ring to measure?" and Print a ring sizer, which opens your printable sizer page in a new tab.
  • The ring size card: under the product, in The details (the Product details section, chapter 4), a "Ring size guide" card with the seven rows around the chosen size, "Your last choice, 6½, is highlighted.", Open the size guide and Print a ring sizer. It follows the picker as shoppers change size.
  • The header's Ring sizes link and the printable ring sizer page itself (below).

Clasp never asks shoppers to hold a ring or a card against their screen: screens differ too much for that to be accurate. Measuring is always on paper.

Ring size settings

In Theme settings › Jewelry:

SettingDefaultWhat it does
Ring size option namesRing sizeOptions with these names get size tiles, the Find your ring size link, the guide and the ring size card, when at least one value reads as a ring size (US 3 to 13, or a UK/AU letter: below). An option with this name whose values aren't ring sizes is an ordinary option. The stack builder uses these names for its size menus too (chapter 11). Separate names with commas; capitals don't matter.
Your ring sizes are inUSUS or UK and Australia: the system your option values are written in, and the one the guide opens in
Sizes you make4-10The sizes you make, in your system: a range (4-10, half sizes included) or a list (5, 6, 7 or J, L, N). Letters work as ranges too (J-N). The guide shows these first. Leave it blank to show every size.
Ranges include half sizesOnA US range such as 4-10 includes 4½, 5½ and so on. Off: whole sizes only.
Ring size help text"Our rings are made in US sizes 4 to 10, in half sizes. Between two sizes? Choose the larger."Under the guide's title. Write how your rings run and what to do between sizes.
Printable ring sizer pageEmptyCreate a page, choose the template "page.ring-sizer", then pick it here (below). Blank hides Print a ring sizer in the guide and the card.
Size option namesSize, LengthOptions with these names show as size tiles, without the ring guide: hoop sizes, chain and bracelet lengths. Separate names with commas.
Tip

Call your rings' option "Ring size" and keep "Size" for everything else (hoops, chains), as the defaults do. If your rings' option is called "Size", add "Size" to Ring size option names: only options whose values read as ring sizes get the guide, so hoops in "Small" and "Large" or chains in "16 in" stay plain tiles. A plain number from 3 to 13 does read as a US ring size, though, so hoops sized "12" would get the guide too.

How option values are matched

The guide reads your ring size option's values the way people write them. Capitals, spaces and the words "size", "US", "UK" and "AU" are ignored, and "½", " 1/2" and ".5" all mean a half:

  • With US, a value must be a number: "6", "6.5", "6½", "US 6 1/2" and "Size 6.5" all find the US 6½ row.
  • With UK and Australia, a value must be a letter, with an optional half or "+1": "M", "M½", "M 1/2" and "Z+1".

An option gets the guide only when at least one of its values reads this way. A value that doesn't still works as a size tile; the guide marks nothing and offers no Choose for it. Half sizes stored as "6.5" show as "6½" on the tiles.

The conversion chart

The guide uses this chart, which ships with the theme. Diameters and circumferences are the inside of the ring, in millimetres; EU sizes are the inside circumference (ISO 8653); UK/AU letters are those on standard jewellers' conversion charts.

The chart has one row per US half size, so it lists the UK/AU letters nearest each (J½ rather than J). A UK/AU size that isn't on the chart, such as L or X, is matched to the row nearest it in circumference (L to L½, X to W½), which is marked and offers Choose for it; when a product has both L and L½, that row chooses L½. In Sizes you make, a letter takes in its half and the row it's matched to: "J-N" shows J½ to N½.

Create the printable ring sizer page

The sizer is a sheet shoppers print at home: a 10 cm check line, a bank card outline, and a strip to cut out and wrap around their finger, marked in US sizes along one edge and UK/AU letters along the other.

  1. In admin, go to Online Store › Pages › Add page. Title it "Ring sizer" (the handle becomes ring-sizer, which the presets' links already use). Write any tips in its content, or leave it empty.
  2. Under Theme template, choose ring-sizer (the page.ring-sizer template), then Save. Make sure the page is visible.
  3. In the theme editor, open Theme settings › Jewelry and choose the page as Printable ring sizer page. The guide and the ring size card now show Print a ring sizer, and the header's Ring sizes link goes to it when its own Ring size link is blank.
  4. Link it from your menus too: in Content › Menus, add the page to your Help menu, and keep the announcement bar's link if you like.
  5. Print it yourself once, at 100%, and check the 10 cm line with a ruler before you tell customers about it.

The page shows your page's title and content, then the Ring sizer section: a "Ring sizer" kicker, its heading, a Print the sizer button and the sheet itself, shown on screen as a sheet of paper. When it's printed, only the sheet prints (the header, footer and button don't), at true scale on one page of A4 or US Letter.

Important

the sheet is only accurate printed at 100% / Actual size. In the print dialog, set the scale to 100% or Actual size and turn off Fit to page or Shrink to fit; the sheet says so too ("Print at 100% (Actual size) on A4 or US Letter. Don't choose "Fit to page"."). Its 10 cm line and bank card outline are there to check: if the line isn't 10 cm, or a bank card doesn't fit the outline exactly, the print was scaled. Printing from a computer is more reliable than printing from a phone, which often scales to fit.

The Ring sizer section can be added to any page template. In the theme editor, the sheet shows exactly as it prints.

In the theme editor, a product without a ring size option shows a sample ring size row (5 to 9) with the Find your ring size link, tagged Sample, so you can open and review the guide; shoppers never see it.
