What's in your download

The three zips are the same theme. A preset only decides the starting palette, fonts, a few settings, words, home page, contact page, password page, header and footer, and you can change all of them afterwards. Products, photos and demo text are not included: a fresh install shows your own products, and sections that need a product or collection show placeholders until you choose one.

Presets

The presets also differ in a few settings:

• Clasp: the Inline header (the wordmark, the menu beside it and a "Ring sizes" link) and Free dispatch over 80.
• Charm: the Stacked header (its demo name is long), no "Ring sizes" link in the header (the announcement bar links to the ring size guide instead) and Free dispatch over 60.
• Heirloom: the Stacked header, Free dispatch over 0 (no free-shipping messages), Show quick add button off (one-of-a-kind pieces go to their product page) and Low stock threshold 0.

The fourth palette, Sterling (cool grey, white panels, ink-navy keys, a midnight lining and silver keylines, for silver-only, men's and minimal jewelry), has no preset of its own; choose it in Theme settings › Colors on any preset.

Every preset's product page has the same buy box: the kicker above the title, the title, the star rating, the price, material badges, the first paragraph of the description, the variant picker with metal chips and size tiles with a Find your ring size link, the Engraving block (on products tagged engravable), the buy buttons with the price in them, stock, a back-in-stock request, pickup, three trust lines and three rows. Under it come The details (the rest of the description, your specifications and a ring size card) and recommendations. Each preset writes them in its own demo terms. Clasp: "Free gift box and a handwritten note", "Free repairs for a year, then at cost" and "Ships in 1–2 days from Fremantle, tracked", with "Worn with the …" recommendations. Charm: "Free gift pouch on orders over $60", "Linked by hand at the bar, or posted in two days" and "Ships in 2 days from Paddington, tracked", with "Charms for the …". Heirloom: "Valued and certified, with its written provenance", "Resized free by our jeweller in Hobart" and "Insured, signed-for delivery from Hobart", with "To sit beside the …". Rewrite the trust lines and rows to your own terms.

Every preset also ships these templates, which you assign to pages in admin (Online Store › Pages, then the page's Theme template field):

The presets link to pages and collections you create yourself. In the Clasp preset: the hero's "Find your ring size", the announcement bar's "Ring size guide" and the header's "Ring sizes" go to /pages/ring-sizer; "Shop bestsellers" to /collections/bestsellers; the Shop by metal tiles to /collections/gold, /collections/silver and /collections/rose-gold; the stack builder's pieces come from the collection rings; the birthstones link to /collections/birthstones; "Engrave a piece" goes to /products/sienna-stacking-band; the Rings menu's "Engraving from $10" promo goes to /pages/engraving. Charm adds /pages/permanent-jewelry and the collections charms-and-chains, charms, new-charms and its four charm collections; Heirloom adds /collections/the-cabinet, /pages/private-viewing, /blogs/stories and its four era collections. Create a page called "Ring sizer" (handle ring-sizer) with the page.ring-sizer template (chapter 9), and either create the other pages and collections with those handles or point each link and section somewhere else.

Install

1. In Shopify admin, go to Online Store › Themes.
2. In the Theme library, click Add theme › Upload zip file and choose the zip of the preset you want. Don't unzip it first.
3. When the upload finishes, click Customize to open the theme editor and make it yours.
4. When you're ready, click Publish (on the theme's … menu in the library, or from the editor). You can upload a second preset next to it to compare; only the published theme is live.

First steps

1. Brand: Theme settings › Brand: your logo, or the shop name as a text wordmark in the heading font, and a favicon.
2. Colors and fonts: Theme settings › Colors › Color palette, then Typography (chapter 2).
3. Menus: in admin, Content › Menus: build the main menu and the footer menu (chapter 3).
4. Real numbers and promises: the presets ship with demo words. Set Theme settings › Commerce › Free dispatch over to your own free-shipping threshold (or 0), and rewrite the announcement bar, the hero's short facts, the trust lines, the product page rows, the stack builder's discount note and the newsletter's offer so they only promise what you offer.
5. Your option names: check Theme settings › Jewelry (chapters 8 and 9). Metal option names lists the options that show as metal chips ("Metal, Finish, Stone, Colour, Color"), Ring size option names the options that get size tiles and the ring size guide ("Ring size"), Size option names the options that get size tiles without the guide ("Size, Length": hoops, chains), and Your ring sizes are in and Sizes you make describe your ring sizes.
6. Ring sizer page: create the page with the page.ring-sizer template and choose it in Theme settings › Jewelry › Printable ring sizer page (chapter 9).
7. Engraving: engraving is offered only on products tagged engravable, so tag the pieces you engrave. Then decide whether you charge for it: to charge, create an engraving fee product and choose it in Theme settings › Jewelry › Engraving fee product (chapter 10).
8. Product data: create the metafield definitions (chapter 7) and fill them on a few products to see material badges, stack layers and your own engraving surfaces appear.
9. Stack builder: choose the collection of pieces, and create the stack discount as an automatic discount in admin if you promise one (chapter 11).
10. Filters and pairings: install Shopify's free Search & Discovery app to set up filters (chapter 14) and the complementary products behind "Worn with the …" (chapter 4).
