Shopify theme for bakeries and cake shops · Version 1.0.0

Sprinkle

A theme for home bakers, cookie and cupcake shops, custom celebration and wedding cake makers, and macaron and patisserie shops that take orders ahead. Its four tools replace the form, the spreadsheet and the Instagram messages most bakers run on, and the bag asks every shopper when they want their order. It looks like a bakery case with the display lights on: a full‑width field of deep, glossy color under a fat headline, treats in fluted cookie rounds on paper doilies, sections stacked like the layers of a cake and topped with a double row of piped icing, and products standing on a display shelf with a scalloped paper trim, the way they sit behind the glass.

One theme, four color palettes.

Pick one in Theme settings › Colors. Change any single color to make an exception.

The Strawberry palette on desktop: a chocolate announcement bar, a warm white header with a piped pink hem, and a deep strawberry hero with a cream headline, “Baked fresh, made to order”, a butter‑yellow Order cookies button, the next pickup date and a cake in a fluted round rising from the bottom edge. Strawberry palette on a phone.
The Buttercream palette on desktop: a dark teal announcement bar, a white header with a piped butter hem, and a deep teal hero with the same cream headline, a butter‑yellow button and the same cake in its fluted round. Buttercream palette on a phone.
The Pistachio palette on desktop: an aubergine announcement bar, a near‑white header with a piped pistachio hem, and a raspberry hero with the same cream headline, a pale pistachio button and the same cake in its fluted round. Pistachio palette on a phone.
The Cocoa palette on desktop: a near‑black announcement bar, a dark chocolate header with a piped chocolate hem, and a sugar‑pink hero with the same headline in chocolate, a chocolate button and the same cake in its fluted round. Cocoa palette on a phone.

Strawberry. A vanilla page, deep strawberry blocks, pale icing bands and chocolate ink. The default, for cookie and cupcake shops.

Buttercream. An ivory page, deep teal blocks and buttons, and butter‑yellow icing bands. For wedding and celebration cake makers.

Pistachio. A pale pistachio page, raspberry blocks and buttons, aubergine ink and a deeper pistachio icing band. For macaron and patisserie shops.

Cocoa. A dark chocolate page, sugar‑pink blocks with chocolate labels and a ganache icing band. The one dark palette. It has no preset of its own: pick it in Theme settings on any preset.

Switch at any time

The palettes are one setting, not separate installs. Three are light and one is dark, and you can override any of their fourteen colors.

Checked for contrast

Every text and control color in the four palettes is measured against WCAG AA contrast on every ground it can sit on, the color block and the icing band included.

Icing stays icing

The pale icing band and the sprinkle colors are decoration only. Every button, border and focus ring uses a stronger partner color, so nothing a shopper has to press fades into the page.

Presets

Three presets, one theme.

Each preset is a complete starting store, with its own home page, palette and fonts. Every section, block and setting is in all three.

Made for bakeries that take orders ahead

The date, the cake, the box and what’s in it.

All four are built in, with no app. They read product and variant metafields and two product tags that you set up once, plus your settings in the theme editor. A product without that data still sells: it uses your default lead time, shows no chips, and shows your line for when no allergens are listed.

The order ahead panel in the bag: “When should we have it ready?”, a Pickup and Delivery switch with Pickup chosen, a December 2026 calendar with closed and too‑soon days struck through and Saturday 5 chosen in a fluted strawberry round, a Time slot menu set to 10 am to 11:30 am, “Your cake needs 3 days, so the first date is Sat 5 Dec.” and “Saved. Pickup Sat 5 Dec, 10 am to 11:30 am.”, then a subtotal of $177.00 and a Check out button.

01

Order ahead

The bag asks every shopper when they want their order: Pickup or Delivery, a month calendar and a time slot, above the subtotal. You set a default lead time, a lead time per product, a daily cutoff in your own time zone, your closed days and dates, and your slots. The bag uses the largest lead time of anything in it and says why the first date is what it is, a live Next pickup date sits in the header and the hero, and every card says how far ahead to order. A date that stops working is cleared with a reason, never moved quietly. The date, the slot and Pickup or Delivery arrive on the order. Shopify’s checkout doesn’t enforce the date and the theme doesn’t count orders, so read the date on each order, and close a day yourself when it’s full.

The cake builder for a custom celebration cake: $145.00, “Order 3 days ahead. Earliest pickup Sat 5 Dec.”, Nut free and Halal chips, then six numbered steps. Size, with cards for 6 inch, 8 inch (chosen, Serves 20–24, $145.00) and 10 inch; flavor and filling, set to Red velvet and Raspberry jam; frosting color, with Strawberry milk ringed among seven swatches; Message on top, “Happy 40th, Bec”, 15 of 30; Inspiration photo, with mums-birthday-cake.jpg attached; and Add‑ons, with Fresh flowers ticked at + $18.00. Under them, the Your cake summary and an “Add to bag · $163.00” button.

02

Custom cake builder

Six numbered steps on the product page replace the back‑and‑forth of a custom order: size cards with servings and prices, flavor and filling menus, frosting swatches, a message with a live count, an optional inspiration photo and add‑ons. A summary card builds one sentence as shoppers choose, and the add button carries the running total. A paste over the message limit is refused whole, with a reason, never quietly cut. The photo goes to Shopify with the cake, so there’s no upload app or outside storage. Add‑ons are ordinary products that follow the cake in the bag, and every choice arrives on the order, line by line. The Tier preset puts the builder on the home page.

“Build a box of 6 or 12” over six flavor rows, each with a cookie in a fluted round, a price, a stepper and a Contains line: Choc chip at 2, Red velvet at 1, Vegan oat at 1, Sprinkle sugar and Double choc at 0, and Lemon glaze marked Sold out. Beside them, a Box of 6 and Box of 12 switch over an open strawberry box with four cookies in its slots and slots 5 and 6 empty, “4 of 6”, a progress bar and an Add 2 more button.

03

Mix‑and‑match box

Shoppers fill a box of 6 or 12 flavor by flavor and watch it fill: each one they add drops a treat into the next numbered slot of an open box, with “4 of 6” and a progress bar under it. The button reads “Add 2 more” until the box is exactly full, then “Add box to bag · $32.00”, with one small burst of sprinkles. The price is on the box’s variants, so no discount app is needed, and the box arrives as one line with its flavors written out. Sold‑out flavors stay listed but can’t be picked, each flavor’s allergens show on its row, and screen readers hear each step and the limit. Box sizes come from your variants, so a box of 12 or 24 works too.

The Allergens and dietary panel: Nut free and Halal chips, then “Contains: wheat, egg, milk, soy.” in bold and a kitchen statement, “Made in a kitchen that handles nuts, so we can’t promise there are no traces.”, an open Ingredients row listing the sponge, the filling and buttercream and the sprinkles, and a closed Storage and shelf life row.

04

Allergens and dietary

A panel under the gallery on every product holds the dietary chips, the allergen statement (“Contains: wheat, egg, milk.”), your kitchen statement, and rows for ingredients and storage. The panel is never blank and can’t be removed: a product with nothing listed says so and asks shoppers to check first, because silence reads as “contains none”. Dietary chips also show on cards and in the buy box, and above collections and search results they filter the grid. Chips and statements show what you enter, so you’re responsible for them being accurate and for any allergen law where you trade.

Features

What’s in the theme.

Everything below ships in version 1.0.0, and the documentation covers every section and setting.

Pages and sections

  • An announcement bar on the darkest band, with a line of text, messages taking turns, a link and an optional countdown to a real deadline
  • A one‑row header with a piped hem, a mega menu with small cookie‑round promos, the Next pickup pill and search with suggestions as shoppers type; a long shop name takes two lines before anything else gives way
  • Hero: a display case with up to three treats in fluted cookie rounds standing on the edge of the color field, or a banner with one photo in a scalloped frame
  • Slideshow, the Mix‑and‑match box, featured collection on the display shelf, featured product or the cake builder, collections grid (dietary tiles or a cake gallery), image with text (with facts or opening hours), ready‑made boxes, shop the table with hotspots, numbered steps or an icon row, as seen in, testimonials, FAQ, newsletter, blog posts, rich text and custom Liquid
  • How ordering works, contact and compare page templates, an enquiry form with event date and guest count fields, a 404 page and a password page

Product page

  • A scalloped gallery with zoom, video and 3D models, and cookie‑round thumbnails; on computers it stays in view while the buy box scrolls
  • A lead time note with the earliest date, dietary chips, and servings beside the price and on size cards
  • Add to bag with the price in it, a sticky add‑to‑bag bar, pickup availability and back‑in‑stock requests
  • The allergens and dietary panel, with ingredients and storage rows
  • Pre‑orders for seasonal bakes, gift card recipients, and subscriptions with a subscriptions app
  • Shopify’s installments message, on stores with Shop Pay Installments
  • A spec table for details such as what’s in a box, from your own metafields
  • “Goes well with” and “You may also like” recommendations

Collections and search

  • Products on the display shelf in fluted cookie rounds (or rounded plates, for tall cakes), with the name, dietary chips, price and lead time underneath
  • A button that fits each product, so a cake reads Start your cake and a sold‑out treat reads Tell me when, plus a second image on hover and optional quick view and swatches
  • One seal per card: Sold out, Pre‑order, Save, Only 3 left, New or Best seller
  • Dietary chips above the grid that filter in place or link to a collection, and every other filter in a drawer, all updating without reloading the page
  • Search with live suggestions: products, collections, pages and articles
  • Compare up to three products, with dietary, allergens, servings and lead time side by side

Cart

  • Bag drawer and cart page with the order ahead panel, an order note, and a free‑delivery progress bar when you set a threshold
  • Cake lines with their flavor, filling, frosting and message, a thumbnail of the inspiration photo and add‑ons nested under the cake, and box lines with their flavors
  • Check out stays off until a date is chosen, and Buy it now and the express buttons hide because they’d skip it; both are settings you can turn off
  • An empty bag with a cookie round: “Nothing in the oven yet. Let’s fix that.”

Trade and B2B

  • Quantity rules, volume pricing and a quick order list for Shopify’s B2B features, for customers such as cafés buying wholesale

Accessibility and languages

  • Every palette measured against WCAG AA contrast, the color block and the icing band included
  • Keyboard friendly: the calendar works from the keyboard, and screen readers hear why a day can’t be chosen and how full a box is
  • The chosen frosting color is named beside its step’s heading, so color is never the only cue
  • Motion follows the visitor’s reduced motion setting, and nothing loops
  • Right‑to‑left languages

You’ll need
A Shopify store on any plan that can publish a theme, and a computer to upload it (phones can’t upload theme files). The dietary filter and complementary product recommendations need Shopify’s free Search & Discovery app (or link each dietary chip to a collection instead). The installments message under the price needs Shop Pay Installments switched on, where Shopify offers it. Set up Shopify’s own pickup and delivery to match what the bag offers: the two don’t share settings.
Your data
Lead days, dietary claims, allergens, ingredients, storage and a back note read product metafields, and servings read a variant metafield, that you set up once, with no app; the user guide walks you through each one. Two product tags turn on the cake builder and the box. Lead times, the cutoff, closed days, time slots, flavors and frosting colors are settings in the theme editor. The date is a request saved on the order: Shopify’s checkout doesn’t enforce it and the theme doesn’t count orders. The theme doesn’t send email: the newsletter collects sign‑ups, and you write the emails. Chips and allergen statements show what you enter, and you’re responsible for them being accurate.
