Search opens a drawer from the header with predictive results as shoppers type: products (with the designer and price), collections, pages and articles. Pressing Enter goes to the search page.

Collection and search pages show a sidebar of filters from 990px and a Filter button that opens them in a drawer on phones. The toolbar above the grid has the result count, an In stock only switch, the sort menu and a 3 or 4 column density toggle; active filters show as chips you can clear one by one. Filtering and sorting update the grid in place and work without script.

Filters come from Shopify's free Search & Discovery app:

  1. Install Search & Discovery from the Shopify App Store.
  2. In the app, open Filters › Add filter and add the filters you want: Availability, Price, Product type, Vendor, and your options such as Upholstery or Finish. Option values with swatches show as swatch filters.
  3. Product metafields can be filters too. For a size filter, a Single line text metafield such as custom.size_band ("Under 180 cm", "180 to 220 cm", "Over 220 cm") reads better than raw measurements, and the custom.designer reference lets shoppers filter by designer where Search & Discovery offers metaobject filters.
  4. Turn on Enable filtering and Enable sorting in the Collection and Search sections (both on by default).

Search & Discovery also sets the complementary products that the Product recommendations section can show (chapter 4).
