Shoppers can't smell a screen, so Wick prints the scent the way a good label does. With the scent metafields filled in (chapter 7):

  • The product page shows an italic "Smells like a fig tree after a summer storm." and the scent notes label: the title "Scent notes" with "Woody family" beside it, three rows, Top, Heart and Base, each with a small tier mark and its notes in the heading font ("Fig leaf · bergamot · pink pepper"), and the strength meter: "Scent strength", five flames between "Soft" and "Strong", filled up to the product's strength, and the words "Strong, 4 of 5".
  • Product cards show one italic line under the title with the family dot: the first note of each tier ("Bergamot · fig leaf · cedar"), or up to three notes when only one tier has notes. Theme settings › Product cards › Line under the title can show the "Smells like" line instead, or nothing.
  • The well behind each product glows in its family's color (Theme settings › Product cards › Glow behind products), and the Product metadata block shows the family as a tag above the title.
  • Quick view, the gift box items, search suggestions, cart lines and the compare page show the notes line or the family too.

When a variant has its own scent metafields, choosing it updates the label in place.

Scent notes block

The Scent notes block goes in the buy box of the Product section (every preset has it under the price) and in the Featured product section (the spotlight uses it with Layout set to Plain).

Fallback fields

Under Used when the product has no scent metafields, the block has its own Top notes, Heart notes and Base notes (separate notes with commas), Scent family (None, or one of the eight families), Scent strength (0 to 5; 0 hides the meter) and Smells like. Each one fills in only when the product's metafield (and the variant's) for the same thing is empty.

Fallbacks are typed into the template, so they show on every product that uses this template. That makes them right for a shop with one scent per template, for trying the design before you fill in your products, or for a template you make for one product. For a whole catalogue, use the metafields. Fallbacks never reach product cards: cards read the metafields only.

What shows without data

With no metafields and no fallbacks, the block shows nothing on your storefront. In the theme editor it shows a sample label (Bergamot and pink pepper, fig leaf and jasmine, cedar, amber and musk, Woody, strength 3), tagged "Sample", with the hint "Add the scent metafields to your products, or fill this block's fallback fields." Shoppers never see the sample.

Scent family colors

The eight families have their own colors in Theme settings › Scent › Scent family colors: Fresh #9ccfc8, Floral #e7a6b8, Fruity #ee9a74, Woody #9b7556, Gourmand #d9a35e, Herbal #8fb07f, Citrus #f2c94c and Smoky #7c7680. They tint product wells and scent tiles and color the family dots. A family color is never the only clue: the dot always sits beside the family's name or the notes, so any color works.
