Products, photos and the demo text aren't there after I install

They aren't included. The demo stores in the listing photos use our own sample products and artwork. Your products appear as soon as you add them, and sections that need a collection or product show placeholders until you choose one.

Customers aren't getting their files

Inkwell shows your products; it doesn't deliver files. Install Shopify's free Digital Downloads app (or another delivery app) and attach a file to every product, or to every variant when each license or paper size has its own file (chapter 8). Then place a test order and check the order status page and the email.

What's inside doesn't show on a product

The product needs preview pages: either the custom.preview_pages metafield, with the key exactly custom.preview_pages and the type File with List of files, or product images whose alt text starts with #inside (chapter 9). Check too that the What's inside block under the gallery has Show What's inside and Show preview pages on. In the theme editor, a product without pages shows drawn sample pages tagged Sample; shoppers see nothing.

The tag must be the very first thing in the alt text: #inside Page 4 of 120, not Page 4 #inside. Edit the image's alt text in the product's media.

My preview pages are labelled "Sample page 1", "Sample page 2"

They have no alt text (or only the #inside tag). Add a label after the tag, such as #inside Page 18 of 120 · Weekly spread, or give the files alt text in Content › Files when you use the metafield.

My License option shows as pills, not cards

Its name must be in Theme settings › Digital products › License option names ("License, Licence" by default; capitals don't matter). An option called "Usage" or "License type" needs adding there (chapter 10).

The license cards show only a name and a price, or the wrong text

Check, in order: the metaobject definition's type is exactly license, its fields are name, summary, allowed and not_allowed, and Storefronts access is on (chapter 7); each entry's Name is spelled like the option value ("Commercial", not "Commercial license"). Without matching entries, the cards use the Variant picker block's license text, matched by name, and only when no value matches any name, by position.

It shows when the Variant picker block's Show 'Compare licenses' is on and at least two of the product's licenses have allowed or not-allowed lines.

The compare table's ticks look wrong

Licenses are cumulative in the option's order: a line allowed by Personal is ticked for Commercial and Extended too. Put the option's values in order from the smallest license to the largest (in the product's Variants section, drag the values), and start each larger license with "Everything in …" followed only by what it adds.

The Instant download badge doesn't show

A product counts as a download only when none of its variants needs shipping: untick This is a physical product on every variant (chapter 8), or turn on Theme settings › Digital products › Treat all products as digital if you only sell downloads. On cards, Instant download on product cards must be on. Gift cards never show it.

The Instant download badge shows on something I post

Theme settings › Digital products › Treat all products as digital is on. Turn it off; downloads are then recognised by their shipping setting.

The page count chip doesn't show on cards

Check the metafield's key is exactly custom.page_count and its type is Integer, and that Theme settings › Digital products › Page count on product cards is on.

A Works with chip has an odd icon

Each chip's icon comes from the first matching word in it (chapter 8): "Cricut Design Space" contains "design" and gets the layout icon. Shorten the entry ("Cricut") for the scissors.

Before and after doesn't show on a product

Both custom.before_image and custom.after_image need an image (type File, one value), or both of the block's own images. One alone shows nothing.

My home page hero shows drawn landscapes instead of my photos

The hero is set to Layout › Before and after and none of its Before and after pair blocks has both images yet. Add both images to at least one pair, or choose another layout (chapter 11).

The freebie's download button doesn't appear after signing up

Paste the file's link from Content › Files into the section's Download link (chapter 12).

Is the freebie download protected?

No. It's a simple honour-system gate: anyone with the link can download the file, with or without signing up. Use it only for files you give away freely, never for paid files. For a free file that goes through checkout, sell it as a product priced at 0 with the Digital Downloads app.

Can I show the logos of the apps my files work with?

Inkwell deliberately shows text and generic icons only, never other companies' logos, which you'd need permission to use. Name the apps in the Works with list, and only the ones you've tested.

Can I use Inkwell on more than one store?

Each purchase covers one store. Buy a licence for each additional store (see LICENSE.txt).

How do I update to a new version of Inkwell?

Updates are provided at Buglyph's discretion and download the same way as your original purchase. Upload the new zip as a new theme and set it up alongside your live one before publishing. Your metafields, license entries, products, files, collections, menus, pages and discounts live in your store, not the theme, so they carry over; theme editor changes need to be made again in the new copy.

Does Inkwell need any apps?

No app is needed for What's inside, the flip-through, license cards, before and after, the freebie opt-in or the Instant download and Works with badges. To deliver files you need a delivery app: Shopify's free Digital Downloads app works. Shopify's free Search & Discovery app powers filters and complementary products, and its free Translate & Adapt app handles other languages. Subscriptions need a subscriptions app, and reviews come from a reviews app of your choice (Inkwell shows the stars from Shopify's review metafields).
