The Brew guide section is your recipe card: method tabs along the top, then the selected recipe with its dose, water, ratio, temperature and brew time, a grind scale, a cups stepper, and a timer that walks the shopper through each step. It needs no metafields; every recipe lives in the section. Add it to the home page, a "Brew guides" page or a blog article's template.

Brew method blocks

Add one Brew method block per brewer, up to eight. The section starts with six: Pour over (15 g, 250 g, 94°, 3:00, grind 3), AeroPress (15 g, 220 g, 88°, 2:00, grind 2), Plunger (30 g, 500 g, 94°, 4:00, grind 5), Espresso (18 g, 36 g, ratio 1:2, 93°, 0:28, grind 1), Stovetop (17 g, 200 g, 5:00, grind 2) and Cold brew (100 g, 1000 g, 12 h, grind 6).

Writing steps

Write each step on its own line, starting with the time it begins:

0:00 Rinse the paper, add 15 g of coffee and pour 45 g of water to bloom.
0:45 Pour slowly in circles to 150 g.
1:15 Pour to 250 g, keeping the bed level.
1:45 Give the brewer a gentle swirl and let it drain.
3:00 Done. Pour, wait a minute, then taste.
  • A line without a time at the start shows as an untimed note in the list.
  • Amounts written as a number followed by g or ml ("45 g", "150ml") scale with the cups stepper, along with the dose and water. Ratios and times stay as written; one cup restores your numbers.
  • While the timer runs, the current step is highlighted and finished steps fade. Screen readers hear each new step once. The timer keeps the right time if the shopper switches tabs, and switching method resets it. It makes no sound.
  • A method without steps hides the steps and the timer.

With no Brew method blocks, the section is hidden from shoppers; the editor shows a sample pour-over recipe with a note. Without script, the page shows the first recipe for one cup.

How to brew it, on the product page

The How to brew it block puts a product's brew methods (custom.brew_methods, as "Best for" chips with pictograms) and its recommended grind (custom.recommended_grind, "Medium-fine, like fine sea salt") in the buy box, with a link to your brew guide. Without a recommended grind it uses the grind the shopper has selected, through Grind levels.

The grind picker

A variant option named like Theme settings › Tasting and roast › Grind option name (Grind) shows as the grind picker: tiles with a particle glyph that grows from fine to coarse. The glyph size comes from Grind levels, a list of Option value: level pairs (Whole bean: 0, Espresso: 1, Stovetop: 2, AeroPress: 2, Pour over: 3, Filter: 3, Plunger: 5, Cold brew: 6); name your option values the same way. Set Grind help page to add a "Which grind?" link beside it.
