# Cart, gift wrap and gift notes

Chapter 12 of the Wick user guide.

Adding to the bag opens the **cart drawer**, "Your bag", from the side of the screen, and the bag count in the header updates. The drawer and the cart page show the same things:

* The **free-shipping track** ("$22.05 away from free shipping", then "Free shipping unlocked") when **Theme settings › Commerce › Free shipping over** is above 0 and the shopper is shopping in your store's currency.
* Each line with its thumbnail in a small well, its options, its scent notes line, any subscription plan and line properties (such as "Pre-order"), a quantity stepper, **Remove** and the line price.
* **Gift boxes**, grouped (below).
* The **gift wrap** switch and the **gift note** (below).
* Order discounts, the subtotal, the tax line ("Taxes and shipping at checkout"), the **Check out** key, accelerated checkout buttons, and **View bag** in the drawer.
* Empty: "Your bag is empty" and "Nothing's burning yet." with a key back to the shop.

| Section | Settings |
| --- | --- |
| Cart drawer | **Show order note in the cart drawer** (on), **Empty bag key label** ("Shop candles") and **Empty bag key link** (blank opens all products) |
| Cart (the cart page) | **Show order note on the cart page** (on), **Empty bag key label** and **Empty bag key link** |

Quantity changes and removals update the bag in place. Apps that change the cart are picked up too, and screen readers hear "Added to your bag." and "Bag updated."

## Gift boxes in the bag

A box from **Build a gift box** (chapter 10) shows as one paper card: a gift icon, "Gift box" and its label ("Box of 3 · A1B2"), the packaging line first and then the items, the gift note in italics, the box's subtotal and a **Remove box** key. Lines inside a box have no stepper and no Remove; they show their quantity ("× 1") and price, because a box is changed as a whole: **Remove box** takes out every line of that box in one step ("Gift box removed."). With **Theme settings › Gifting › Gift box page** set, the card also links to "Build another box".

If a box changes anyway (an app, a checkout edit or an inventory clean-up removes one of its lines), the card keeps its lines together and says "This box now has 2 of 3 items. Its gift box price may change at checkout.", or "This gift box is empty." when only the packaging is left, with **Remove box**. The theme never removes or re-adds lines on its own.

## Gift wrap

Shoppers can switch gift wrap on for the whole order with one switch above the gift note: a small picture, your label and line, the price ("+$5.00", or "Free" when the wrap costs nothing) and the switch. On adds one of your gift wrap product to the bag; off takes it out. The wrap line itself isn't listed with the other lines (the switch row stands for it), and it always stays at quantity 1.

To set it up:

1. Create a product such as "Gift wrap" priced for wrapping, available on your **Online Store** sales channel. For complimentary wrapping, as the Vesper preset's words promise, price it at 0 (the switch row then reads "Free"). Give it an image for the switch row. Keep it out of the collections you show, so nobody adds it from a product grid (the gift box leaves it out by itself).
2. In **Theme settings › Gifting**, choose it as **Gift wrap product**, and set **Gift wrap label** ("Gift wrap my order") and **Gift wrap description** ("Tissue, ribbon and a wax seal.").

The row shows only while the wrap product can be bought (or is already in the bag). In the order, the wrap is an ordinary line, so you see at a glance which orders to wrap.

## The gift note

The bag's note field is Shopify's **order note**, relabeled for gifting from **Theme settings › Gifting**: **Gift note label** ("Add a gift note"), **Gift note placeholder** ("Write a message for the card. We'll handwrite it.") and **Gift note length** (200, 100 to 500 characters), with a live count. It shows in the drawer and on the cart page while **Show order note…** is on in those sections, and arrives as the order's **Notes** in admin. If you also need delivery instructions, change the label to something broader, such as "Gift note or delivery instructions".

There is one order note per order. A gift box's own note (chapter 10) is separate: it travels with that box's lines.
