# Getting started

Chapter 1 of the Torque user guide.

## What's in the download

| File | What it is |
|---|---|
| `Torque-1.0.0-torque.zip` | The theme, set up as the **Torque** preset (parts catalogue) |
| `Torque-1.0.0-basecamp.zip` | The same theme, set up as the **Basecamp** preset (overland outfitter) |
| `Torque-1.0.0-patrol.zip` | The same theme, set up as the **Patrol** preset (tactical and field gear) |
| `Torque-user-guide.pdf` | This guide |
| `LICENSE.txt` | Your licence: one live store per purchase |

All three zips contain the complete theme. They differ only in their starting point: palette, fonts, corner style, product card options, header layout, whether vehicle fitment is on, the home page and the header and footer content. Pick the one closest to your store; you can change everything afterwards.

## The three presets

| | Torque | Basecamp | Patrol |
|---|---|---|---|
| For | Auto parts and 4x4 accessories with a big catalogue and trade customers | Overland and camping outfitters | Tactical, outdoor and preparedness stores |
| Palette | Workshop (light grey, white wells, signal orange) | Trailhead (sand and canvas, olive) | Ranger (dark olive-black, coyote tan) |
| Heading / body font | Barlow Condensed / Barlow | Archivo Narrow / Archivo | Saira Condensed / Saira |
| Corner style | Cut | Rounded | Cut |
| Header | Catalogue layout, always sticky | Classic layout, sticky on scroll up | Classic layout, always sticky |
| Product cards | Square, contain, quick add, compare | Portrait, cover, quick view | Square, contain, quick add |
| Vehicle fitment | On (Year, make, model) | On (Make, model, year) | Off |
| Home page | Hero with vehicle finder, icon row, categories, best sellers, Shop the build, kits, brands, blog posts | Photo hero, categories, featured collection, Shop the build, vehicle finder, image with text, icon row, blog posts | Split hero with stats, categories, featured collection, Shop the loadout, kits, icon row, brands, blog posts |

The product page is the same in all three: the buy box with a fitment check, then **Specs and fitment** (part details, specifications, fitment table), then two **Product recommendations** sections.

## Install the theme

1. In your Shopify admin go to **Online Store › Themes**.
2. Under **Theme library**, choose **Add theme › Upload zip file** and pick one of the zips. Don't unzip it first.
3. When the upload finishes, the theme appears in your library as **Torque**. Choose **Customize** to open it in the theme editor.
4. Work through the checklist below, preview the store on a phone and a computer, then choose **Publish** from the theme's **…** menu when you're ready.

You can upload more than one zip to compare presets side by side. Each upload is a separate copy of the theme with its own settings; only the published one is live. Uploading a zip doesn't change your products, collections, pages or menus.

## Switching presets later

Shopify adds a **Theme style** entry at the bottom of **Theme settings** that lists Torque, Basecamp and Patrol. Choosing one applies that preset's theme settings: palette (and it clears any colours you changed), fonts, layout, corner style, product card options, vehicle fitment options, the logo and the free shipping amount. Afterwards, turn your logo back on and re-enter your free shipping amount. It doesn't change your home page, header or footer; those come with a preset only when you upload its zip. To change colours only, use **Theme settings › Colors › Color palette** instead.

## First-hour checklist

1. **Theme settings › Brand**: add your logo, tagline and favicon.
2. **Theme settings › Colors**: pick a palette (chapter 2).
3. **Theme settings › Commerce**: set **Free shipping over** to your real threshold, or 0 if you don't offer free shipping. The Torque and Basecamp presets ship with 150 as an example.
4. **Header**: choose your main menu and replace the example announcement, utility links and phone number (chapter 3).
5. **Home page**: replace the example headings, images, collections and products in each section. Sections without content show placeholders in the editor.
6. **Footer**: choose your footer menus and replace the example text and newsletter copy.
7. **Vehicle fitment** (if you sell vehicle-specific parts): set up the Vehicle metaobject, the Fitment metafield and the Fitment filter (chapter 6). Until that's done the finder, garage and fitment check stay hidden from shoppers.
8. **Search & Discovery**: install Shopify's free Search & Discovery app and add the filters you want on collection and search pages (chapter 9).
9. **Pages**: create a Contact page with the `page.contact` template and, if you use product comparison, a page with the `page.compare` template (chapter 4).

## Working in the theme editor

- The page selector at the top of the editor switches between the home page, products, collections, cart, search, blog, pages and so on. Changes to a template apply to every page that uses it.
- **Add section** lists every section allowed in that spot. **Add block** inside a section lists the blocks it accepts.
- Theme-wide options live under the paint-brush icon (**Theme settings**).
- Product data the theme reads (SKU, barcode, metafields, tags) is edited on the product in your admin, not in the editor.
