# Footer

How to set up footer columns, the newsletter sign-up, social icons, country and language selectors, policy links and payment icons.

The footer is one section in the Footer group. It has a row of columns built from blocks, an optional row of country and language selectors, and a bottom bar with copyright, policy links and payment icons.

You can add sections above the footer in the Footer group, and they appear on every page. For example, an [Icon row](../building-pages/content-sections.md#icon-row) of your shipping, returns and warranty terms, a [Logo list](../building-pages/content-sections.md#logo-list) of the stores that stock you, a [Newsletter](../building-pages/content-sections.md#newsletter) or [Rich text](../building-pages/content-sections.md#rich-text).

## Columns

Add blocks to create columns. Columns sit side by side and wrap onto new rows when there isn't room, so they stack on phones.

| Block | Settings | Shows |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Newsletter | "Heading", "Text", "Show Follow on Shop" | An email sign-up. See below. |
| Menu column | "Heading", "Menu" | A list of links from a menu. "Menu" defaults to `footer`. |
| Text column | "Heading", "Text" | Rich text, such as a short about line or your address |
| Social media | "Heading" | Icons for the social links in theme settings |

The default footer has a Newsletter ("Subscribe"), a Menu column ("Depot") and a Social media column ("Channels").

The footer also offers the general blocks (Eyebrow, Heading, Text, Button, Collapsible row and Custom Liquid) and **Generate**, which creates a block from your description. Each one takes a place in the row of columns, at its own height, and a Button keeps its own width. A Heading block adds a heading to every page; for a column title, use the column block's own "Heading" setting. See [AI-generated blocks](../core-concepts/sections-and-blocks.md#ai-generated-blocks).

### Newsletter

| Setting | Notes |
| --- | --- |
| "Heading" | Default "Subscribe". |
| "Text" | Tell subscribers what they'll receive. |
| "Show Follow on Shop" | Lets customers follow your store in the Shop app. On by default. Appears when Shop Pay is enabled for your store. |

Sign-ups are saved as customers with email marketing consent and the tag `newsletter`.

### Social media

Add your profile links in Theme settings › Social media. Techno supports Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, X, TikTok, LinkedIn, Pinterest and Threads. Only networks with a link get an icon. With no links at all, the column is hidden on the live store.

## Country and language selectors

| Setting | Notes |
| --- | --- |
| "Show country and language selectors" | Set up markets and languages in Shopify admin. On by default. |

The country selector appears when you sell to more than one country or region. The language selector appears when you publish more than one language. See [Markets, currencies & languages](markets-and-languages.md).

## Bottom bar

| Setting | Notes |
| --- | --- |
| "Show policy links" | Links to each policy you've written in **Settings › Policies**: refund, privacy, terms of service, shipping and contact information. On by default. |
| "Show payment icons" | Icons for the payment methods enabled in **Settings › Payments**. On by default. |

The copyright line, "© 2026 Your shop. Powered by Shopify", updates its year automatically.
