# Getting started

Chapter 1 of the Loot user guide.

## What's in your download

| File | What it is |
| --- | --- |
| `Loot-1.0.0-loot.zip` | The theme with the **Loot** preset: collectibles, figures and drops |
| `Loot-1.0.0-tabletop.zip` | The theme with the **Tabletop** preset: board games, miniatures and RPGs |
| `Loot-1.0.0-holo.zip` | The theme with the **Holo** preset: trading cards and comics |
| `Loot-user-guide.pdf` | This guide |
| `LICENSE.txt` | Your licence: one store per purchase |

The three zips are the same theme. A preset only decides the starting palette, fonts, words, home page, product page, header and footer, and you can change all of them afterwards. Products, photos and demo text are not included: a fresh install shows your own products, and sections that need a product or collection show placeholder cards until you choose one.

## Presets

| Preset | For | Palette | Fonts | Words and cards | Home page |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Loot | Figures, vinyl, statues, blind boxes and drops | Arcade | Unbounded headings, Figtree body | Rarity labels Common to Legendary and Chase; condition chips for "Condition" and "Grade" options (Mint in box to Box wear); portrait cards; "Got it" toggles inside sets | Burst hero with a drop countdown, collections row, New this week, drop calendar, set tracker, graded-and-slabbed story, bundles, trust strip, licensed brands |
| Tabletop | Board game, miniatures and RPG shops | Meeple | Bricolage Grotesque headings, Figtree body | Square cards for game boxes; game stats on cards; no "Got it" toggles; condition scale New, Like new, Played, Well loved; "Releases" instead of drops | Split hero with game stats, two collection rows (by kind of game, by player count), staff picks, release calendar, game night story, FAQ |
| Holo | Trading cards, comics and graded slabs | Holo (dark) | Dela Gothic One headings, Rubik body | Rarity labels Common, Uncommon, Rare, Ultra rare, Key issue and Secret rare; condition scale Near mint to Damaged; "Got it" toggles on every card | Burst hero with a release countdown, collections row, fresh pulls, release calendar, set tracker for a comic run, condition story, trust strip |

Every preset's product page carries every collector block (series and edition, grade, drop countdown, condition chips, base-game guard, game stats, set box), then **Box details** and the **Condition guide**, a "Complete the set" strip, an "Expand this game" strip and two rows of recommendations. Blocks with no data stay hidden, so a figure shows no game stats and a board game no grade (chapter 7). The fourth palette, **Vapor** (mint, magenta and aqua, for plush, pins and pop-culture merch), has no preset of its own; choose it in Theme settings › Colors on any preset.

Every preset also ships these templates, which you assign to pages in admin (**Online Store › Pages**, then the page's **Theme template** field):

| Template | Use it for | What's on it |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `page.drops` | Your drop or release calendar (chapter 9) | The drop calendar with past drops shown as sold out, and "Drop day questions" |
| `page.sets` | The shopper's **My sets** page (chapter 10) | Every set the shopper is tracking on their device, with progress |
| `page.contact` | Your contact page | The contact form ("Ask the counter") with an order number field |
| `page.compare` | Side-by-side comparison (chapter 4) | The comparison table |

## Install

1. In Shopify admin, go to **Online Store › Themes**.
2. In the **Theme library**, click **Add theme › Upload zip file** and choose the zip of the preset you want. Don't unzip it first.
3. When the upload finishes, click **Customize** to open the theme editor and make it yours.
4. When you're ready, click **Publish** (on the theme's **…** menu in the library, or from the editor). You can upload a second preset next to it to compare; only the published theme is live.

## First steps

1. **Brand**: Theme settings › Brand: your logo, or the shop name with a logo mark (gem, meeple, card and more), and a favicon.
2. **Colors and fonts**: Theme settings › Colors › Color palette, then Typography (chapter 2).
3. **Menus**: in admin, **Content › Menus**: build the main menu and footer menus (chapter 3).
4. **Real numbers**: the presets ship with demo values. Set **Theme settings › Commerce › Free shipping over** to your own threshold (or 0), and rewrite the announcement bar, trust strip and perk rows so they only promise what you offer.
5. **Collector data**: create the metafield definitions (chapter 7) and fill them on a few products to see rarity badges, edition numbers, grades, drop countdowns and game stats appear.
6. **Drops**: create a page with the `page.drops` template and add your next releases to the drop calendar (chapter 9).
7. **Sets**: create a collection per series or wave, a page with the `page.sets` template, and choose it in Theme settings › Collecting (chapter 10).
8. **Filters**: install Shopify's Search & Discovery app and add your filters, including Rarity and Players (chapter 13).
