# Getting started

Chapter 1 of the Littles user guide.

The three zips are the same theme. A preset only decides the starting palette, fonts, words, home page, product page, collection page, wish-list page, header and footer, and you can change all of them afterwards. Products, photos and demo text are not included: a fresh install shows your own products, and sections that need a product or collection show placeholders until you choose one.

Every preset's product page has the same buy box: the age badge, title, subtitle, price, certification chips, the variant picker with **size tiles**, the **size helper** strip, the **age warning** right above the buy buttons, the buy buttons with a **heart**, three perk lines, stock, a back-in-stock request, pickup, the product **description** and a "Shipping and returns" row. Under it, the **Size guide and safety** section holds the size table and the "Safety and materials" panel, then "Complete the look" and "You might also like" recommendations. Sprout shows up to four certification chips, the others three. The fourth palette, **Sorbet** (an apricot page, peach and lilac tiles, blackcurrant buttons), has no preset of its own; choose it in Theme settings › Colors on any preset.

Each preset's perk lines and "Shipping and returns" row match its own demo terms: Littles "Free shipping over $75" and returns "unworn and unwashed", Playroom "Free shipping over $99", birthday wrapping and returns on toys still in their box, Sprout "Free shipping over $120", carbon-neutral shipping and recycled gift wrapping. Rewrite them to your own terms.

Every preset also ships these templates, which you assign to pages in admin (**Online Store › Pages**, then the page's **Theme template** field):

The header's heart links to `/pages/wish-list` until you choose a page in **Theme settings › Wish list › Wish list page**, so give your wish-list page the handle `wish-list`, or choose it there. The Littles preset also links its hero's "Find their size" button and the Shop by age note to `/pages/size-guide`: create a page called "Size guide" (handle `size-guide`) with the `page.size-guide` template, or point those links somewhere else.

## Install

1. In Shopify admin, go to **Online Store › Themes**.
2. In the **Theme library**, click **Add theme › Upload zip file** and choose the zip of the preset you want. Don't unzip it first.
3. When the upload finishes, click **Customize** to open the theme editor and make it yours.
4. When you're ready, click **Publish** (on the theme's **…** menu in the library, or from the editor). You can upload a second preset next to it to compare; only the published theme is live.

## First steps

1. **Brand**: Theme settings › Brand: your logo, or the shop name with a small star doodle beside it, a short line under it, and a favicon.
2. **Colors and fonts**: Theme settings › Colors › Color palette, then Typography (chapter 2).
3. **Menus**: in admin, **Content › Menus**: build the main menu (with a "Shop by age" link if you like) and the footer menus (chapter 3).
4. **Real numbers and promises**: the presets ship with demo words. Set **Theme settings › Commerce › Free shipping over** to your own free-shipping threshold (or 0), and rewrite the announcement bar, hero ticks, perk lines, testimonials and the gift guide tiles so they only promise what you offer.
5. **Sizes**: check **Theme settings › Sizing › Size option names** lists the option names your products use for sizes ("Size, Age" by default), and that the **Default size table** matches your sizes (chapter 9).
6. **Product data**: create the metafield definitions (chapter 7) and fill them on a few products to see age badges, certification chips, the age warning and materials and care appear.
7. **Shop by age**: install Shopify's free **Search & Discovery** app and add the age filter, or give each age tile its own collection (chapter 8).
8. **Wish list**: create a page with the `page.wish-list` template and link it in your menus (chapter 10). For the Littles preset's "Find their size" links, also create the size guide page with the `page.size-guide` template.
9. **Gift wrap**: create a gift wrap product and choose it in Theme settings › Gifting (chapter 12).
