# Getting started

Chapter 1 of the Atelier user guide.

## What's in your download

| File | What it is |
| --- | --- |
| `Atelier-1.0.0-atelier.zip` | The theme with the **Atelier** preset: a design-furniture studio |
| `Atelier-1.0.0-lumen.zip` | The theme with the **Lumen** preset: a lighting and decor studio |
| `Atelier-1.0.0-commons.zip` | The theme with the **Commons** preset: a home store with many products |
| `Atelier-user-guide.pdf` | This guide |
| `LICENSE.txt` | Your licence: one store per purchase |

The three zips are the same theme. A preset only decides the starting palette, fonts, words, lead times, home page, product page, trade page, header and footer, and you can change all of them afterwards. Products, photos and demo text are not included: a fresh install shows your own products, and sections that need a product, collection or material show placeholders until you choose one.

## Presets

| Preset | For | Palette | Fonts | Words and lead times | Home page |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |

| Commons | Home stores with large catalogues | Plaster | Host Grotesk Medium headings, Host Grotesk body | Tagline "Home store"; made to order in 6 to 10 weeks; "Home delivery"; wide page, square cards, quick add, "Ready to ship" badges | Hero, collections by room, two featured collections, shop the room, material library, logo list, blog posts, newsletter |

Every preset's product page has the designer byline, title, price, description, variant picker (with material chips and close-ups), stock line, delivery timeline, buy buttons, assurance rows, back-in-stock form, pickup and three collapsible rows, then a **Dimensions** section with the drawing and Will it fit, and two rows of recommendations. The fourth palette, **Concrete**, has no preset of its own; choose it in Theme settings › Colors on any preset.

Every preset also ships these templates, which you assign to pages in admin (**Online Store › Pages**, then the page's **Theme template** field):

| Template | Use it for | What's on it |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `page.trade` | Your trade programme (chapter 12) | A list of trade benefits, the trade enquiry form and "Before you apply" questions |
| `page.samples` | Your free samples page (chapter 8) | An intro, the material library ("Every material we work with") and "Sample questions" |
| `page.contact` | Your contact page | The contact form and your contact details |
| `page.compare` | Side-by-side comparison (chapter 4) | The comparison table |
| `metaobject/designer` | Designer pages (chapter 7) | The designer story and their collection |

## Install

1. In Shopify admin, go to **Online Store › Themes**.
2. In the **Theme library**, click **Add theme › Upload zip file** and choose the zip of the preset you want. Don't unzip it first.
3. When the upload finishes, click **Customize** to open the theme editor and make it yours.
4. When you're ready, click **Publish** (on the theme's **…** menu in the library, or from the editor). You can upload a second preset next to it to compare; only the published theme is live.

## First steps

1. **Brand**: Theme settings › Brand: your logo (or the shop name with the lintel mark), a tagline and a favicon.
2. **Colors and fonts**: Theme settings › Colors › Color palette, then Typography (chapter 2).
3. **Menus**: in admin, **Content › Menus**: build the main menu and footer menus (chapter 3).
4. **Real numbers**: the presets ship with demo values. Set **Theme settings › Delivery and lead times** to your own workshop name, lead times and delivery promise, set **Free delivery from** to your real threshold (or 0), and rewrite the announcement bar, icon rows and assurance rows so they only promise what you offer.
5. **Furniture data**: create the dimension, lead-time and file metafields and the Designer and Material metaobjects (chapter 7), and fill them on a few products to see the dimension lines, drawings, material close-ups and bylines appear.
6. **Samples**: create your sample product and a samples page (chapter 8), or turn samples off.
7. **Trade**: create a page with the `page.trade` template and choose it in Theme settings › Trade (chapter 12).
8. **Filters**: install Shopify's Search & Discovery app and add your filters (chapter 14).
