# Markets and languages

Chapter 14 of the Altar user guide.

* **Countries and currencies**: set up markets in admin under **Settings › Markets**. With more than one, the footer and the phone menu show a country/currency selector. Prices, including each piece's price on its card, convert through Shopify.
* **Languages**: Altar ships in English. Add languages under **Settings › Languages** and translate with Shopify's free **Translate & Adapt** app, which covers the theme's words (the phase names, sign names, "Found a home" and the rest), your section text, your settings and your metafields. With more than one language published, a language selector appears beside the country selector.
* **Piece option names in other languages**: Pick your piece finds its option by name. If you translate the option's name ("Piece" to "Pièce"), add the translated name to **Piece option names** ("Piece, Specimen, Pièce"). **Intuitively chosen value** holds a single value, so keep that value the same in every language, or translate it and the setting together.
* **Intentions and signs in other languages**: the filters match the values stored on your products. The zodiac wheel always filters by the English sign names ("Scorpio"), so keep `custom.zodiac`'s values in English; the wheel's sign names themselves are translated with the theme's words. If you translate your intention values with Translate & Adapt, set each intention card's **Filter value** to the value as it's stored.
* **Moon dates and names**: the moon's dates print in the shopper's time zone, in their browser's words for days and months when it shares the store's language ("Tue 10 Nov", "mar. 10 nov."). The phase names come from the theme's words, so they translate with Translate & Adapt.
* **Right-to-left languages** such as Arabic and Hebrew mirror the layout, including the back-to-top button's side. The moon and the zodiac wheel are drawn the same way in every language: they are pictures of the sky. Shop the altar's hotspots stay where you put them on the photo, because the photo isn't mirrored.
* **Free shipping** messages show only to shoppers paying in your store's currency, because the threshold can't be converted reliably.
* **Countdowns** are absolute moments: every shopper counts down to the same instant.
