# Crystal properties

Chapter 8 of the Altar user guide.

"What is this stone for?" is the first thing a crystal shopper asks. Altar answers it on the product page, in quick view and in the Featured product section, from the metafields in chapter 7: a **properties panel** with the stone's intentions, chakras, signs and element, a highlighted **care warning**, and **How to use** under it; and **intention chips** under the price and on every card, so shoppers can see at a glance what a stone is for and jump to everything else that shares an intention.

## The properties panel

On the product page the panel sits under the gallery (on phones, after the buy box). In its default **Framed** style it is a card face with Altar's fine double rule and a small star cutting the top rule, headed "Crystal properties". Each row has a label on the left and the values on the right (on phones the label sits above):

* **Intentions**: one chip per value of `custom.intentions`, in your order. Each chip is a link to your finder collection filtered by that intention ("Calm" goes to every product whose intentions include Calm, chapter 9).
* **Chakras**: a small dot in the chakra's own color, then its name, always in body order from Root to Crown: Root (red), Sacral (orange), Solar plexus (yellow), Heart (green), Throat (blue), Third eye (indigo) and Crown (violet). The colors are fixed; the name always prints beside the dot, so the meaning never rests on color alone.
* **Zodiac**: each sign's glyph, drawn for Altar, and its name, in zodiac order from Aries to Pisces. With **Link signs to the zodiac filter** on, each sign links to the finder collection filtered by that sign.
* **Element**: the element's alchemical glyph (a triangle for Fire, Water, Air and Earth, a circle with a cross for Spirit) and its name.

A row shows only when its metafield has a value, and a product with none of them and no care note shows no panel.

**The care warning** sits at the foot of the panel: a strip on the fields color with a rule and an icon in the **Sale and errors** color, and your care note beside them. Everything up to the first full stop is in bold, so "Not water safe. Cleanse with smoke, sound or moonlight instead." reads as a warning followed by what to do. Altar picks the icon from your words: a struck-through **water drop** when the note mentions water, wet or salt; a struck-through **sun** when it mentions sun or fading; an **alert** sign for anything else. Screen readers hear the note as a note, in full.

**How to use** follows the panel as a collapsible row, open by default, headed "How to use", with the steps from `custom.how_to_use`.

**The disclaimer** can close the block: a small star and the line from **Theme settings › Crystals and rituals › Disclaimer text**, when the block's **Show the disclaimer** and the theme setting are both on and the product has something in the panel.

## The Crystal properties block

| Setting | Default | What it does |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Heading | "Crystal properties" | The panel's heading. Leave it blank for none. |
| Style | Framed | **Framed** (a card face with the double rule and star) or **Plain** (the rows on the page's own ground, for a quieter buy box) |
| Show intentions | On | The Intentions row |
| Link intentions to the filtered collection | On | Each intention chip links to the finder collection filtered by it. Off, the chips are plain. |
| Show chakras | On | The Chakras row |
| Show zodiac signs | On | The Zodiac row |
| Link signs to the zodiac filter | Off | Each sign links to the finder collection filtered by it |
| Show element | On | The Element row |
| Show care warning | On | The care warning |
| Show how to use | On | The How to use row, with **How to use heading** ("How to use") |
| Show the disclaimer | On | The disclaimer line under the block. The text and the store-wide switch are in Theme settings › Crystals and rituals. |

The presets' product page turns the block's **Show the disclaimer** off, because the **Trust rows** block in the buy box already shows the disclaimer under its lines: the line shows once on the page. If you remove the Trust rows block, turn it on here.

The block can also go in the buy box, in the Featured product section and (as it is) in quick view. Under the gallery, select it in the editor's block list under the Product section.

## Intention chips

* **Under the price** (the Price block's **Show intention chips**, on): up to six chips, each a link to the finder collection filtered by that intention.
* **On product cards** (Theme settings › Crystals and rituals › **Intention chips on cards**, 3 by default): the product's first intentions as small plain chips under the name, at most two lines of them, and at most two on phones. A long intention is shortened with an ellipsis rather than breaking the card. Set it to 0 to hide card chips.
* **In the empty bag** (chapter 12): a row of intentions you choose, each a link to the filtered finder collection.

Chips use the first values of your `custom.intentions` list, so put the intention a stone is best known for first.

## The disclaimer and your claims

Altar ships with a disclaimer, **on by default**: "Crystals and rituals are spiritual practices, not a substitute for medical advice." It shows in the footer's last row on every page and under the trust rows on the product page. Change its words in **Theme settings › Crystals and rituals › Disclaimer text** (keep it to one short sentence), or turn it off with **Show the disclaimer**; the footer, the Trust rows block and the Crystal properties block all follow that one switch.

> **Note:** Keep every claim to tradition and belief. Write "Amethyst is traditionally associated with calm" or "a stone many keep by the bed for restful sleep", never "relieves anxiety", "cures insomnia", "heals", "treats" or "detoxes". Don't make health or medical claims anywhere: in product titles, descriptions, intentions, care notes, How to use, the hero, testimonials or ads. Health claims you can't prove can break consumer law and Shopify's and the payment providers' rules, and the disclaimer doesn't make them safe. The disclaimer is a reminder to shoppers, not a licence to claim more.

Intentions such as Calm, Protection, Love, Abundance and Clarity describe what a shopper is calling in, which is the language of practice and belief: keep them that way rather than naming conditions ("Anxiety", "Migraine").
